Who would drop themselves down a 180-metre tower? Seriously, who would? And more to the point why would you?! Well, let me explain…

Back in those halcyon pre-pandemic days (remember those?) some MNC Managers, caught up in the excitement of doing something different for a worthy cause that would also impact their businesses, decided to abseil down the Spinnaker Tower. All 180 metres of it, in aid of Chestnut Tree House. You’d struggle to find a better reason to launch yourself off a tower than this West Sussex children’s hospice, which supports children and their families with life-limiting conditions.
Once the decision was made they encouraged others to sign up too. At MNC we believe that operating as a team with everyone playing a small part can achieve big things. So, a 14-strong team challenged themselves silly, and on the 13th September they gathered at the bottom of the tower.

Stepping off the comfort zone
Nicky and myself as Directors of MNC will extol the virtues of getting out of your own way and broadening your horizons by doing something way beyond your safe comfort zone. And we always try to be brave enough to lead by example. So, with nerves a-go-go and knees a-knocking we led the team up the absurdly tall tower.
Despite the height and the overwhelmingly long drop we had not one refuser. Every single member of the team stepped out over the ledge and dangled in mid-air. Let me tell you, it is a challenge for the brave-hearted. As the first one over the edge of the ledge, I can confirm that it is indeed the longest way down. The poor patient instructor explained how I was going to lower myself, while I just cried and looked blankly back at her.
Feeling my feet on the ground after what seemed like an eternity just produced more tears. Watching the team, one by one while watching the money donated rise to over £7000 was the best feeling. And I’m so very proud of everyone!
There were muscle spasms, songs, and tears and the support from members was brilliant both virtually and on location. The Chestnut Tree Team were also an amazing cheer team! The challengers were left empowered and ready to take on the world. So if you ever think you need to level-up your business and raise your profile – think about a charity challenge. I promise it will pay dividends!
