Transcendental Meditation – Newhaven and East Sussex
Note from the Directors:
Thank you for being such a loyal MNC member, for keeping us chilled out and for being part of the MNC Lewes Town and Country article.
Question 1: Give us a brief description of your business. How you help people? What makes you unique?
I love teaching Transcendental Meditation! I trained to be a teacher of this amazing technique with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (yes, the man who taught the Beatles… and Donovan… and Mia Farrow…and…so many others) and have taught TM, alongside other activities, throughout my adult life. What makes TM unique is that it makes use of the natural meditation response that we all have built into our minds and bodies, but we just haven’t known how to activate it. There’s no need to struggle with concentration techniques, focussing on breathing, different parts of the body, or listening to apps. Once you learn TM, you can practise it for yourself, every day, effortlessly, and you will experience many benefits. Research has shown that people who practise TM experience a profound rest – deeper even than during deep sleep – that de-stresses the mind and heals the body. Studies show decreased anxiety and depression among TM Meditators, increased energy, alertness and creativity, greater ability to focus while maintaining a view of the bigger picture, reduced hospital visits, a lowering of high blood pressure and better relationships. The technique is easy to learn – just 90 minutes a day on 4 consecutive days – and, once you learn TM, you have it for the rest of your life.
Question 2: Why do you love your business and what you do?
This morning a mother looking after an autistic daughter told me how pleased she was that she had learned TM. She said she felt calmer and happier and got on better with her daughter. Yesterday afternoon a man with Asperger’s who learned TM a couple of months ago told me how TM had helped him get through a very stressful time recently. Four people who learned TM in November told me how they were sleeping better as a result of learning TM. Two of them also said they were finding they were more organised during the day, getting through their ‘to-do lists’ much faster.
Question 3: Tell us about a time when you said to yourself ‘this is why I do what I do’.
It’s at times like this – and they come very regularly – that I appreciate why I do what I do!
Questions 4: How has MNC helped you on your business journey so far?
Being a member of MNC has been a delight, such a wonderful opportunity to meet other business owners and learn from them and also to be able to offer my services to them – what can be more important to a business owner than to have a clearer mind, more alertness and energy and better health?
Question 5: If there was one piece of advice you would give to someone thinking of starting their own business what would it be?
The one piece of advice I would give to someone thinking of starting their own business is to do something you love – if it’s going to work better in your own business rather than as an employee, then go for it! There’s so much advice and help around, you’ll always be able to find information to help you with the things you don’t yet know about, but just make sure you’re doing what you love.
Question 6: Anything else you want our readers to know about you and your business?
