Note from the Directors:
Welcome to the MNC Community and for joining MNC Lewes. Thank you for supporting the MNC Lewes article in Town and Country Magazine.
Question 1: Give us a brief description of your business. How you help people? What makes you unique?
We publish books and greeting cards celebrating the beauty and/or quirkiness of the world in which we live. The vision is to entertain, inform, engage and educate (with a little ‘e’) about the special things. We believe that to want to save something you have to love it first and we are about the love side. It may not be unique but it is an important first step.
Question 2: Why do you love your business and what you do?
We love the world in which we live, the beauty, the intricacy, the creativity of nature and of warm decent humans. We get to share this love!
Question 3: Tell us about a time when you said to yourself ‘this is why I do what I do’.
I wrote a little book on garden wildlife, and the true stories (they are unusual and quirky of course) revolve around a fledgling robin called Freckles. A mum had been reading it to her three-year-old daughter and she reported to me that the little girl had sat her down when they finished the book and said that now she wanted to find the stories in HER garden!
Questions 4: How has MNC helped you on your business journey so far?
MNC is a warm and friendly collection of people from a rich variety of backgrounds. It is a joy to be able to share in all of our journeys, not just be all self-absorbed like in many other groups. I’ve really appreciated this.
Question 5: If there was one piece of advice you would give to someone thinking of starting their own business what would it be?
Be patient. There are many stories of rapid success, but to be able to sustain long-term success it is important to be confident in how you are moving forwards. A great tip I was given once was to make your mistakes while you are small, then fewer people may remember you making them!
Question 6: Anything else you want our readers to know about you and your business?
We are warm, we are responsive and we genuinely love the natural world and the vibrant built environment. We also love lichens in particular and I have a resplendent lichen growing on my car’s indicator light (we have written a book on lichens and we have another in preparation on the stories they can tell).
