Debra Skeen

Question 1: Give us a brief description of your business. How you help people? What makes you unique?
I use music as therapy to create well-being for anyone in need and for those who aren’t.
Question 2: Why do you love your business and what you do?
Changing people’s moods through song is a delight to behold especially for those living with Dementia, Parkinson’s, depression and general malaise.
Question 3: Tell us about a time when you said to yourself ‘this is why I do what I do’.
Seeing a smile on the face of someone who “never engages with anyone” and walking a gentleman back to his room with his gait nearly normal after having the Parkinson’s shuffle for such a long time (after we did a walking song).
Questions 4: How has MNC helped you on your business journey so far?
I have met so many wonderful people and been inspired by their journeys and been so grateful for all of their help through recommending me.
Question 5: If there was one piece of advice you would give to someone thinking of starting their own business what would it be?
Be true to yourself and don’t undersell yourself!
Question 6: Anything else you want our readers to know about you and your business?
2019 saw me go from being a facilitator for music working in care homes to adding choir leader to the “strings on my bow”. I now run a weekly well-being Choir in Lewes, a Parkinson’s choir in Lewes and another in Hailsham and the choir for staff, patients and family members at St Peter & St James Hospice. I am building up a small practice in my studio at home for private singing lessons and singing for special occasions (weddings, funerals, birthday celebrations, etc) in the South East. I also write bespoke songs for special occasions or for business jingles.
